class=\"body-text\"\u003e江戸時代までは仏像に彩色を施すのは当たり前のことでした。しかし明治の時代になり西洋彫刻のフォルム至上主義の考え方が浸透する中で、いつしか仏像への彩色は邪魔なものとされるようになりました。そのような風潮に反し、日本古来の彩色木彫を大きく復活させたのが、日本彫刻界の巨星であり文化勲章を受章した平櫛田中（ひらぐし でんちゅう）でした。田中が残した数々の名品、その彩色のほとんどを任されていたのが彩色師 平野富山（ひらの ふざん）でした。\u003c\/p\u003e\n                \u003cp class=\"body-text\"\u003e本作品の彩色を手掛けた篁千礼は富山の正当後継者の一人であり、仏像彩色の第一人者です。篁氏は彩色に際し、まず仏像それぞれの性格、特性を表す紋様、バランスのとれた配色を構想します。こちらの作品は、現在では木肌が現れ、落ち着いた雰囲気を醸し出していますが、造像当時は像全体に漆で金箔を貼り付けた光輝く漆箔像であったとされています。\u003c\/p\u003e\n class=\"body-text\"\u003e心持ち前傾姿勢をとり左足を踏み下げ、その膝の上に右足を組んで坐り、右手を頬に添えて思案する姿。こうした座り方を半跏、もの思いに耽ることを思惟ということから、このような姿勢を持った仏像を半跏思惟像といいます。弥勒菩薩は半跏思惟のお姿で、お釈迦様の教えで救われなかった人々を救済する方法を思い描きながら、56億７千万年後に現れる未来仏とされています。\u003c\/p\u003e\n
